Surya Kunda is one of the upper lakes of the Gosaikunda basin in Langtang National Park, lying above the main Gosaikunda lake on the climb toward the Laurebina La (4,610m). At around 4,600 metres it is among the highest of the named kunda and is dedicated to Surya, the Hindu sun god.
The lake is part of the sacred 108-lake complex and figures in the Janai Purnima pilgrimage. Its position on the high traverse means most visitors see it while crossing between the Langtang and Helambu valleys — a stark, wind-scoured place of rock, ice, and immense Himalayan views.
Like the other kunda above Gosaikunda, Surya Kunda is experienced as part of the trek rather than as a separate trip; altitude here is significant and the lake is frozen for much of the year.
