Checking a road before you travel

The road closures above are reported by the Department of Roads, and flood and rainfall warnings by the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, both through the government's BIPAD portal. Each alert is a place and a time, not a route: find the town names on your route and look for them here.

Then ask someone on the road. Your bus company, trekking operator or hotel knows whether a blocked stretch has been cleared hours before any portal does. A closure with no end time has no announced reopening, and a road that is not listed is not confirmed open.

    Kathmandu to Pokhara via Mugling, where the road south to Narayanghat and Chitwan branches off.

  • B.P. Koirala (BP) Highway

    Dhulikhel to Bardibas via Sindhuli, the shorter way from Kathmandu to the eastern Terai.

    Kathmandu to Kodari on the Tibet border, past Dhulikhel and Barabise.

    North from Trishuli to Syabrubesi, the Langtang trailhead, and the Rasuwagadhi border.

    Up the Kali Gandaki valley to Jomsom and Mustang.

How do I check if a road in Nepal is open?
Start with the road closures on this page, which the Department of Roads reports through the government's BIPAD portal. Then confirm with someone on the route: your bus company, trekking operator or hotel. A closure with no end time given has no announced reopening, and a road missing from the list is not confirmed open.
Are these updates official?
They come from official sources — the BIPAD disaster portal run by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, the Department of Tourism and the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation — and are relayed as published. AroundTrail does not check or edit them.
What does "No end time given" mean?
The issuing office did not say when the alert stops applying. It does not mean the alert has ended, and it does not mean it will last indefinitely. Road closures often carry no end time.
How often is this page updated?
The sources are fetched every 15 minutes, and an open page refreshes itself every five minutes. Alerts reported more than 72 hours ago are dropped; notices stay listed until the office replaces them.
When are floods and landslides most likely in Nepal?
During the monsoon, roughly June to September. That is when flood and heavy-rainfall warnings are issued most often and when landslides most often block hill roads. Build spare days into an overland or trekking plan in those months.
