Bisankhu Narayan is the southern temple of the Char Narayan, the four Vishnu shrines traditionally held to guard the Kathmandu Valley from the cardinal directions. It sits on a wooded hillside above the Godawari area in southern Lalitpur, the most rural and least-visited of the four.

The temple is deliberately modest. There is no grand pagoda; the object of worship is a plain rock set in a small shrine reached by a stone stairway that climbs the hill and then drops toward a narrow fissure in the rock face. Pilgrims try to squeeze through this tight gap — by tradition, only those free of grave sin can pass, which makes the cave the temple's best-known feature.

The setting is quiet and green, with terraced farmland and forest on the valley's southern rim. Because it is well off the main temple routes, Bisankhu Narayan rewards visitors who want a contemplative stop rather than a crowded one, and it pairs naturally with the nearby Godawari Botanical Garden and Naudhara springs.

The site is an ancient one, worshipped since the early centuries of the common era, though successive repairs mean little of the original structure survives. Visit it as part of the Char Narayan circuit alongside Changu Narayan, Ichangu Narayan, and Shesh Narayan.
