Dharmachakra Mahavihar, known in Newari as Tanga Bahal, is a Newar Buddhist bahal in the old-city lanes near New Road, Kathmandu. Like the other bahals of the historic core, it is a courtyard monastery of the living Newar Buddhist tradition, tended by its resident Bajracharya and Shakya community.
Its name refers to the Dharmachakra — the Wheel of Dharma — the emblem of the Buddha's first sermon and one of the central symbols of Buddhism. It is a separate monastery from the similarly named Tanga Bahal (Jestha Varna Mahavihar) of Patan.
This is a short entry; further detail on the monastery's founding, inscriptions and enshrined deities will be added as it is confirmed.
