Bhaktapur Pottery Session
Try wheel pottery near Bhaktapur's traditional pottery squares.
A Bhaktapur pottery session fits naturally with a heritage day around the old city, adding a hands-on craft stop to temple and square visits. Bhaktapur's pottery tradition is centuries old — the Potters' Square (Thimi and Dattatraya areas) is a living workshop where artisans still shape clay on kick wheels. The session lets you try the wheel yourself with guidance from a local potter. Sessions typically run 1.5–2.5 hours and cover basic wheel techniques: centering the clay, pulling up the walls, and shaping a simple pot or bowl. You keep what you make (it needs to dry and can be picked up later or shipped). No experience is needed — the potter adjusts the guidance to your skill level. Children as young as 6 can participate. The workshop is within walking distance of Bhaktapur Durbar Square, so it combines easily with a full day of sightseeing. Morning sessions have better light and cooler temperatures. Book at least a day ahead. Wear clothes you don't mind getting clay on. The cost includes all materials and the potter's time.
