Chitwan Jeep Safari
A guided wildlife drive through community forest and national-park buffer areas.
Chitwan jeep safaris are the most common way to structure a wildlife afternoon from Sauraha. The drive covers the national park buffer zone and community forests, with a naturalist guide spotting wildlife from the open-top vehicle. The main targets are the greater one-horned rhinoceros and the Royal Bengal tiger, though tiger sightings are rare and depend on luck. Deer, wild boar, langur monkeys, and gharial crocodiles along the river are more reliable sightings. A typical safari runs 3–5 hours, departing in the early morning (6 AM) or afternoon (1 PM). The morning slot has better wildlife activity; the afternoon slot has better light for photography. The season runs October through May — monsoon months flood the park and close most routes. November–February offer the best visibility through thinner vegetation. Most lodges in Sauraha arrange safaris as part of a package. The jeep holds 6–8 passengers plus a driver and guide. Bring binoculars, a hat, sunscreen, and neutral-colored clothing (no bright colors). Insect repellent is essential. Book at least a day ahead; popular morning slots fill fast in peak season.
