Kathmandu Street Food Walk
A guided evening route through local snacks, tea stalls, and neighborhood food stops.
A street food walk gives travelers a guided way to try local snacks without guessing where to start. The route typically covers the old Kathmandu market streets — Asan, Indra Chowk, and surrounding lanes — where vendors have been selling the same snacks for generations. A local guide explains what each item is, how it's made, and which stalls are worth returning to. The walk runs 2.5–3 hours in the evening, covering about 2 km on foot. You'll try 8–12 different items including sel roti, chatamari, bara, samosas, juju dhau, and various achars. The guide adjusts for dietary restrictions if you mention them in advance. Most walks end with a cup of Nepali milk tea at a local stall. Wear comfortable walking shoes and bring cash in small denominations — some stops are too small for cards. The walk operates year-round since it's not weather-dependent. Book at least a day ahead; groups are small (6–10 people). This is one of the best ways to understand Kathmandu's food culture beyond tourist restaurants.
