Ranikot ('queen's fort') is a forested ridge south of Lalitpur above the Lele valley — one of the least-visited but most rewarding short hikes on the southern rim. The trail starts near Tika Bhairab and climbs gently through oak and chilaune forest to an open ridge at roughly 2,150m.
The viewpoint gives a rare three-way panorama: Phulchoki rising to the east, Champadevi to the west, the terraced Lele valley below, and on clear days the Ganesh–Langtang wall to the north. Old stone walls and a small shrine hint at a former hilltop fort. The path is easy underfoot and the forest is rich with birdlife.
Ranikot makes an excellent family hike or a half-day reset from the city. Pair with lunch at one of the Lele valley resorts or continue along the ridge toward Phulchoki for a much longer day.
