The Everest Base Camp trek is the most famous trekking route in Nepal and arguably the world. Starting from Lukla, this legendary trail winds through the Khumbu region, passing through Sherpa villages like Namche Bazaar, Tengboche, and Dingboche before reaching the base camp of Mount Everest at 5,364 meters.
Along the way, trekkers are treated to stunning views of Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama Dablam, and dozens of other Himalayan peaks. The trail passes through Sagarmatha National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site home to rare wildlife including the Himalayan tahr, musk deer, and the elusive snow leopard.
The Tengboche monastery, perched on a ridge at 3,867m with Everest and Ama Dablam as its backdrop, is one of the most photographed locations in Nepal. The trek is moderately difficult and requires good physical fitness, but no technical climbing skills are needed.
Best attempted in spring (March-May) or autumn (September-November) when skies are clearest.
