Current Weather
Sarangkot is a ridge-top village perched at roughly 1,600 metres on the northwestern edge of the Pokhara valley, and by far the city's most famous viewpoint. From the lookout tower at the top, a near-180° Himalayan panorama opens up across the Annapurnas — Dhaulagiri (8,167m), Annapurna South (7,219m), Machhapuchhre/Fishtail (6,993m), Annapurna II, III, and IV, and on clear mornings Manaslu (8,163m) far to the east. The valley of Pokhara with Phewa Lake shimmering below completes one of Nepal's signature dawn views.
Most visitors come at sunrise, when the peaks catch the first alpenglow before clouds build through the day. The classic approach is a pre-dawn taxi ride up the motor road, a short 10-minute walk to the viewpoint, and breakfast at one of the tea houses along the ridge. Walkers prefer the Sarangkot Sunrise Hike from Lakeside — a 1.5–2 hour climb through forest and villages — which can be combined with the descent to Naudanda or Kaskikot for a full-day walk.
Sarangkot is equally well known as the launch site for tandem paragliding over Pokhara — most flights take off from a grassy ridge just below the viewpoint and land at Khapaudi by Phewa Lake, 25–45 minutes later. The village has a handful of simple guesthouses and teahouses; staying overnight allows you to catch both sunset and sunrise without the early drive. Avoid heavy monsoon months (July–August) when cloud cover frequently hides the peaks.
