The Abu Khaireni side of the Manakamana foot approach preserves the older pilgrim experience of climbing to the hilltop Bhagwati shrine rather than riding the cable car from Kurintar. The route gains height steadily from the highway corridor through settlements, steps, and ridge paths before reaching Manakamana village and the temple precinct.
For modern pilgrims this is a devotional alternative, not the easiest access option. Start early, carry water, and verify the exact local trailhead and surface condition before relying on it, especially after monsoon rain.
