Pathibhara ridge, above Suketar
Pathibhara Temple sits on a high ridge in Taplejung district at about 3,794 metres, making it one of Nepal's most important mountain pilgrimage sites. Dedicated to Goddess Pathibhara Devi, the shrine draws devotees from across Nepal and India who come in the belief that heartfelt wishes made here will be fulfilled.
The pilgrimage is both physical and devotional. Most visitors approach from Suketar or Kaflepati and make the final steep ascent on foot through forest, prayer flags, tea stops, and exposed ridgeline sections. The atmosphere at the summit mixes Shakti worship with a Himalayan frontier feel, especially in spring and autumn when the skies are clearest.
Nepal Tourism Board identifies Pathibhara as one of eastern Nepal's major Shakti Peeths. Local Buddhist communities also light lamps here on full-moon nights, giving the site a broader regional sacred identity beyond its Hindu core. Pilgrims often combine temple visits with holy dips in nearby ponds and attendance at seasonal fairs.
