What a Teej wish is about
Haritalika Teej is fasted for a husband's long life in the older telling, and for a great deal else in the way it is actually kept: sisters and friends meeting at a temple, food sent from a maiti home, songs that say plainly what a year has been like. A wish that treats it as a costume day misses it. The ones that land are sent between women — to a sister, a mother, a friend who is fasting — and they tend to be about strength and company rather than about anyone's husband.
