What a Tihar wish is about
Kukur Tihar honours dogs, Gai Tihar cows, Govardhan the ox, and then the two days people send messages for: Mha Puja, when Newars worship the self and the year turns, and Bhai Tika, when sisters put a seven-colour tika on their brothers' foreheads and brothers give something back. A Tihar wish is therefore worth timing. Sent on the wrong day it is generic; sent on Bhai Tika to a brother in another country it is the whole ritual, minus the room.
