Buddhism was born in Lumbini, in present-day Nepal, and has flourished in the Kathmandu Valley and the high Himalaya for over two millennia. The great stupas of Boudhanath and Swayambhunath anchor the valley’s Buddhist landscape, while the monasteries of the Khumbu and Mustang regions preserve Tibetan Buddhist traditions. Together they form a living Buddhist circuit — where pilgrims circumambulate ancient stupas, spin prayer wheels, and trace the footsteps of the Buddha.
